The World’s 50 Best Bars 2023 was just revealed in Singapore and NYC’s very own Double Chicken Please made it to second place!
Lower East Side’s Double Chicken Please continues to top global rankings and currently holds the title of the best bar in North America. After ranking sixth on The World’s 50 Best Bars 2022, Double Chicken Please has successfully jumped four spots to second place on this year’s list.
The list, sponsored by Perrier, features 28 cities with 11 new entries across Bangkok, Berlin, Dubai, London, Melbourne, New Orleans, Paris, Rome, Seoul, Singapore and Stockholm. The live ceremony took place in Singapore on Tuesday, 17th October 2023. Overall, the ceremony celebrates “the excellence of the international drinks sector, paying tribute to the visionary bartenders, enterprising bar owners and trailblazing brands that lead the charge in shaping cocktail culture around the world.”
Barcelona’s Sips took the number one spot for 2023. This isn’t the first time a Barcelona bar reigned the rankings as Paradiso was number one in 2022. “The bar seamlessly translates contemporary innovation and technical precision into a playful cocktail programme, accompanied by the warmest hospitality, making it a worthy winner of The World’s Best Bar 2023 title,” said William Drew, Director of Content, 50 Best about Sips.
Other New York City bars join Double Chicken Please in the world’s top 50, including Overstory (#17) and Katana Kitten (#27).
How are the rankings determined? 680 drinks experts with 50/50 gender parity from The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy cast their vote. This consists of world renowned bartenders and consultants, drinks writers and cocktail specialist. Each drink expert gets seven votes to distribute based on their bar experiences over the past year and half.
Following NYC’s Double Chicken Please comes Mexico City’s Handshake Speakeasy (#3), Barcelona’s Paradiso (#4) and London’s Connaught Bar (#5). Click here to explore the full list.
