Grab your costume and prepare to be on the lookout for the things that go bump in the night as award-winning Halloween pop-up bar Black Lagoon is once again bringing spooky cocktails and all the creepy vibes to NYC’s Pretty Ricky’s from October 17th through October 31st.
Industry veterans Erin Hayes and Kelsey Ramage are the ones behind Black Lagoon, which first took over a popular bar in Toronto in October 2021 and instantly became a hit amongst Halloween lovers and horror enthusiasts alike.
Referred to as a goth-metal Halloween pop-up, Hayes and Ramage pull inspiration from goth culture and cult horror–think Rob Zombie’s House of 1,000 Corpses.
Dark, dungeon-like environments are their thing, and visitors will find themselves among skulls, life-sized coffins, skeletons, and bubbling cauldrons, complete with a soundtrack full of punk, metal, and eerie noises.
“Kelsey and I both love the metal/goth/horror bars and those spots really inspired Black Lagoon, but they are more beer-and-a-shot type places,” says Hayes. “With our background in the spirits world, we wanted to pay extra attention to making sure our list is as tasty as it is blood curdling.”
And their cocktail list is equally as eerie as the decor.
Halloween-hues pair with tantalizing flavors to create drinks such as the Book of Blood, a take on a Mai Tai made with Montelobos, Giffard Pimente, fresh beet juice, fresh lime juice, miso falernum, and absinthe.
The Satanic Panic is equally as creepy yet delicious, and is made with Ritual Tequila, pineapple, miso falernum, and fresh lime.
Black Lagoon is meant to be a space where Halloween enthusiasts can come to celebrate spooky season and feel at ease while doing so (despite all the haunts along the way!) so get your costumes ready!
“We want this to be a space for the weird, for the misfits and the goths,” says Hayes. “As an adult, this concept embraces my inner goth metal kid who just loved Halloween. We just want to let people have fun and experience true freedom from judgment” added Ramage.
For the Halloween cocktail pop-up of your nightmares, you won’t want to miss this BOOzy experience.
